Time
for a Walk!
How
about a pretty new collar and leash? Would
you like a sweet collar and leash for your 4 footed child that is not only
pretty, but reflective so that it is safer for both of you when you go for those
evening walks?
Do you have your Puppy-Dog
Taken
Care of???
I have just the thing for you. I have some great grosgrain ribbon with reflective material on it, and decided to make some pretty collars and leashes for our 'other' children for safety! And, when you go for walks, you will know that the collar and leash will show up when vehicle headlights shine on it!!
This particular set would be
best suited for a toy or miniature breed. My 'model', Shadow, is a smallish Miniature Poodle.
This collar and lead fit him perfectly! And please excuse him,
he was kind of un-nerved by the "nanny" who was holding the leash. He really was pleased
to help model the leash and collar - at least until his feline sister had to join in!! Please click on the
any of the pictures to get a close-up view of the leash and collar.
This third set (I already have two other, reflective sets
for sale) is in an
international yellow (think school bus), in a 5/8" width, and if you look at the pictures taken with
the flash, you can see how well it reflects! The leash is double sided - I
made it so that it reflects even if it twists, no matter where the light comes
from. I want your 'baby' to be safe - you too, of course! But the
idea is that the leash and collar should reflect from any angle.
The collar is single sided, as I don't think that the puppy will be glowing from
the inside - if it is, you really have problems that my collar and
leash aren't going to be much help with! The leash is extra long. Personally, I find the 6 foot leashes at the
pet stores just a touch too short! When 'Rover' suddenly wants to sniff that
tree, he about pulls your arm out of the socket! So I made this leash
about 7 1/2 feet long. The

is a scan of the ribbon, so you get a better idea of the color.
I also made the hand loop a bit larger, see the above photo. That way, if you are wearing a coat, you can still slip it up to the elbow area while you are unlocking the front door.

Some of the
photos were taken without a flash so you could see what it looked like when
it wasn't reacting to light.
The collar
OK, here are the night photos - please excuse the quality, it was cold, I was
tired, my model (the dress form) was uncooperative, and I was in a hurry!
But, this should give you an idea as to how well the leash and collar (collar is
lying on the ground) reflect the lights! The 'model' is about 60-70 feet
from my vehicle with the headlights on. Distance is my husband's estimate - I
personally think it is longer, since I used to park a 40' tour bus in that same space
with room for another bus in there too. But hubby says to err on the side
of caution. We have a long driveway. For the suburbs,
that is.
